Seltjarnarnes, Iceland: Grótta lighthouse in Seltjarnarnes in the vicinity of Reykjavík. Due to alternating high and low tides the lighthouse stands either on an island or at the end of a headland. At low tide, when this photo was taken, the island is connected to the mainland by an isthmus covered with seaweed. The previous two photos showed the view from the tower of the lighthouse.

Big fat Lighthouse, my favourite of the last three.

Hi:
I was fascinated to find your blog since I too love lighthouses. I took a trip to the Baltic and Iceland in 2011 to shoot stock photos and since decided I had to find this one while I was in Iceland - from the long walk home I knew it wasn't actually in the city proper! But well worth the walk.
I walked for hours from downtown Rekjavik starting before 5 AM on my last day in Iceland to find this lighthouse - which the guy at the front desk of our hotel said would be an easy walk - one of my friends and I got so lost that he finally gave up but I persevered and finally found it. Unfortunately, my CF card was corrupt so only about half my photos came out, though I got a couple of good ones. I was luck that it was low tide so I could get close.
I took many photos of lighthouses along the Stockholm Archipelago too from the deck of a cruise ship - and thanks to people like you I was able to discover the names of nearly all of them since I hadn't planed to locate lighthouses before the trip.
Your trip to Iceland sounds wonderful! The three days I spent there were fabulous - I want to go back and explore more of it.
Thanks for sharing your photos!

Marianne, thanks for the feedback and your interesting story! I visited your web page, but didn't find your lighthouse photos from Iceland. I would love to see them!
Many of my Iceland pictures are still unpublished - more than five years after the journey - but I hope I'll find the time to share a few more of them at some point in the future...
